During the armed conflicts which took place in Europe in various periods of history, many private and institutional early printed book collections were relocated and dispersed. They are currently held in libraries, archives, museums, and private collections all over the world. As the tangible legacy of Europe’s cultural heritage, they serve as an invaluable resource for comprehending its history, science and culture. The purpose of this conference is to examine the war and postwar fates of early printed book collections, their current legal status, and strategies for bringing them together.
